Diuretics

There are different types of diuretics, but all of them increase urine output from your body by helping the kidneys eliminate salt and water. Diuretics are used to reduce the edema (swelling) caused by salt and water retention in disorders of the heart, kidneys, liver, or lungs. They’re also commonly used in the treatment of health conditions such as hypertension (high blood pressure).

If your doctor prescribes diuretic drugs for you, make sure you discuss with your doctor how they can help your health conditions, how you should take them, and any possible side effects.
