The following is some information from the Centers from Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) on Medicare enrollment in Pennsylvania in 2018:
Private insurance companies must have contracts with Medicare to offer Medicare Advantage plans and Medicare Prescription Drug Plans. Depending on the terms of the contract between the plan and Medicare, not every plan is available statewide or in all service areas. Each year, the plan must renew its contract with Medicare, so the availability of a plan in a specific service area is subject to change.
Pennsylvania Medicare Savings Programs: Each state offers savings programs for beneficiaries. Pennsylvania residents who are enrolled in Medicare and have limited means may qualify for a Medicare Savings Program that offers discounts on out-of-pocket health expenses.
Pennsylvania State Health Insurance Counseling and Assistance Program(SHIP): Pennsylvania’s APPRISE Health Insurance Counseling Program offers free health insurance counseling to Pennsylvanians with Medicare. Specially trained volunteers answer questions about all sorts of Medicare topics. They also hold community events throughout the state.
