In 2018, there were more than 1,900,000 Medicare beneficiaries in North Carolina. To learn more about Medicare in North Carolina, here are some statistics reported by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services:
Private insurance companies must have contracts with Medicare to offer Medicare Advantage plans and Medicare Prescription Drug Plans. Depending on the terms of the contract between the plan and Medicare, not every plan is available statewide or in all service areas. Each year, the plan must renew its contract with Medicare, so the availability of a plan in a specific service area is subject to change.
North Carolina Medicare Savings Programs: North Carolina has Medicare Savings Programs that help beneficiaries each year. If you have limited income or resources, you may qualify for discounts on your out-of-pocket expenses, such as premiums and deductibles.
North Carolina State Health Insurance Counseling and Assistance Program (SHIP): In North Carolina, SHIP staff members counsel Medicare beneficiaries and caregivers on many different Medicare related topics. The counselors also help beneficiaries and their caregivers recognize and prevent billing errors and possible Medicare fraud.
