There are more than a million beneficiaries enrolled in Medicare in Maryland. To learn more about Medicare in Maryland, here are some 2018 statistics:*
Medicare Advantage plans and Prescription Drug Plan sponsors must have a contract with Medicare in order to offer Medicare insurance plans (such as a Medicare HMO or a Medicare Part D Prescription Drug Plan). Depending on the terms of the contract between the plan and Medicare, not every plan is available statewide or in all service areas. Each year, the plan must renew their contract with Medicare, so the availability of a plan in a specific service area is subject to change as a result of the annual contract renewal.
Maryland Medicare Savings Programs: People enrolled in Medicare in Maryland that also have limited incomes can apply for programs that help pay some or all of health care expenses that aren’t covered by Medicare, such as copayments, premiums, and deductibles. For more information on Maryland Medicare Savings Programs, visit their site Maryland’s Medicaid website.
Maryland State Health Insurance Counseling and Assistance Program (SHIP): The Senior Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) helps seniors understand their health insurance benefits. In Maryland, the SHIP program has trained staff and volunteer counselors in all 24 counties who can answer your questions about Medicare.
