Idaho had over 323,500 Medicare beneficiaries as of 2018. Below is more information on Medicare enrollment in Idaho*:
Medicare Advantage plans and Medicare Prescription Drug Plans are offered through private insurance companies that contract with Medicare to offer Medicare insurance plans (such as a Medicare HMO or Medicare Prescription Drug Plans). Not every Medicare plan is available statewide or in all service areas; costs and benefits may vary as well. Each year, the Medicare plan must renew its contract with Medicare, so the availability of a plan in a specific service area is subject to change from year to year.
The state of Idaho has several resources to help Medicare beneficiaries understand their coverage and, for eligible individuals, get help with Medicare costs.
Idaho Medicare Savings Programs: Medicare beneficiaries in Idaho with limited income and resources may qualify for a Medicare Savings Program. Administered by Medicaid, these programs help beneficiaries with costs like Medicare premiums, copayments, and deductibles. To learn more about eligibility, contact the Idaho Medicaid department.
Idaho State Health Insurance Counseling and Assistance Program (SHIP): Senior Health Insurance Benefits Advisors (SHIBA) is part of a network of health insurance assistance programs across the country that offers free, unbiased counseling on Medicare questions. SHIBA-trained volunteers are available by phone or in-person at local SHIBA offices throughout Idaho if you have questions about Medicare. To look up the contact information for your local SHIBA office, visit Medicare.gov.
