In 2018, there were more than 260,000 Medicare beneficiaries in Hawaii, according to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). To learn more about Medicare in Hawaii, here are some statistics:
Private insurance companies must have contracts with Medicare to offer Medicare Advantage plans and Medicare Prescription Drug Plans. Depending on the terms of the contract between the plan and Medicare, not every plan is available statewide or in all service areas. Each year, the plan must renew its contract with Medicare, so the availability of a plan in a specific service area is subject to change.
Medicare beneficiaries may use available resources to help answer any questions about Medicare plans, benefits, and more. These resources may also assist beneficiaries with limited incomes.
Medicare Savings Programs: Hawaii offers savings programs for Medicare beneficiaries whose income falls below a certain level. These programs can help pay for things like Medicare Part A and B premiums, deductibles, and prescription drug costs.
Hawaii State Health Insurance Counseling and Assistance Program (SHIP): Hawaii beneficiaries and their families can visit the Sage PLUS Program website to find out more about Medicare. Sage PLUS, a program sponsored by the State Health Insurance Counseling and Assistance Program (SHIP), offers counseling via phone calls, public education meetings, or face-to-face meetings.
