As of 2018, Delaware had over 151,300 Medicare beneficiaries*. Here is some information about Medicare in Delaware*:
Medicare Advantage plans and Medicare Prescription Drug Plans are available through private insurance companies that contract with Medicare in order to offer Medicare insurance plans (such as a Medicare HMO or a Medicare Prescription Drug Plan). Depending on the terms of the contract between the plan and Medicare, not every plan is available statewide or in all service areas. Each year, the plan must renew their contract with Medicare, so the availability of Medicare plans in a specific service area is subject to change.
Delaware has Medicare resources available for beneficiaries who would like to know more about Medicare or who may need help with their out-of-pocket health-care expenses.
Delaware Medicare Savings Programs: These programs provide assistance with out-of-pocket costs for beneficiaries with an income that is below a limit set by the government each year. This may include help with costs like premiums, deductibles, and copayments. To learn more about eligibility and how to apply, contact the Delaware Medicaid department or visit the Delaware Medicare Assistance Bureau website link below.
Delaware State Health Insurance and Assistance Programs (SHIP): The Delaware Medicare Assistance Bureau (DMAB), formerly known as ELDERinfo, is an organization in Delaware that provides free health-insurance counseling for residents with Medicare. The program is sponsored in part by a grant from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). To look up the contact information for a DMAB program in your area, visit the Delaware Medicare Assistance Bureau website.
