Medicare Advantage (Medicare Part C) is a program that lets private Medicare-contracted companies offer Medicare Advantage plans. These plans provide beneficiaries with an alternative way to receive Original Medicare (Part A and Part B) benefits. Medicare Advantage plans offer the same benefits covered by Medicare Part A and Part B, but may include additional coverage such as prescription drug benefits, routine dental coverage, and routine vision or hearing care. There may or may not be Medicare Advantage plans available in your part of Alaska.

Prescription drug coverage with Medicare Advantage plans in Alaska

If there are available Medicare Advantage plans in Alaska, some plans might include prescription drug benefits. If you enroll in a Medicare Advantage Prescription Drug plan, all your Medicare benefits are packaged together in a single plan. However, you still need to continue paying your Medicare Part B monthly premium if you’re enrolled in a Medicare Advantage plan, along with any premium that plan may charge.

Even if you don’t have access to a Medicare Advantage Prescription Drug plan, you may still be able to get Medicare prescription drug coverage in your part of Alaska. You can enroll in a stand-alone Medicare Part D Prescription Drug Plan to work with your Original Medicare coverage if you live within the service area of such a plan.
